In his play, Shakespeare tries to show us a negative interpretation of love. He explains the problems between TITANIA and OBERON, such as the refusal of TITANIA to relinquish control of the young Indian prince whom she has kidnapped, but whom OBERON wants for a knight. Moreover, the conflict between THESEUS and HIPPOLYTA who was engaged to marry THESEUS and that she does not act at all like an unwilling bride.

Although HYPPOLYTA was engaged to marry THESEUS, she did love him and accepted to live with him. Because he projects confidence, authority, and benevolent power, and he behaves through her very gently when he defeated her in combat. In short, she used to live with him because he was gentle with her and this thing led her to love him. Therefore, that’s one of the conflicts that Shakespeare shows us. In other words, she loved him after she married him, and that is one of the love conflicts since it’s known that in order to marry someone you should love him first.

On the other hand, OBERON and TITANIA were not able to understand each other and to reach an agreement which allowed them to know what to do with that Indian prince whom TITANIA kidnapped but OBERON wants him for knight. In other words, they were confused and not able to understand each other despite the fact that they were married and they loved each other. This shows us another conflict of love, since it’s known that couples who are in love always try to solve problems together and pass the obstacles that they face in order to continue their normal life. But, in the play we see that OBERON desires revenge. Also, TITANIA has sworn to avoid his company and his bed, and despite the fact that they loved each other she was less upset by the fact that she and OBERON are apart than by the fact that OBERON has been disrupting her and her followers’ magic dances.

In conclusion, Shakespeare shows us that being in love is not always as good as we think. And that is because relationships may also be problematic, and contain a lot of odds between lovers. Although they love each other , there are a lot of things which may lead them to lose each other.
