As a man in his mid-30s, I have hit the stage of my life where I look baffled at certain things. These could be fads such as behaviours, fashion, collectables or anything involved in pop culture.

Sometimes, I cannot believe I am acting in a way I never thought possible — am I getting old?

Of course, the answer is yes. Indeed, it comes to us all. Over time, one cannot help but surrender to nature’s grasp. It’s impossible not. I hope I age gracefully.

However, I fear graceful is a word which cannot be said for present and future generations. Sadly, I see lesser appearances from people who seem a good fit: Not just as role models but as parents or partners.

I say this as I feel the older we get, we — if we learn to observe and nurture our brains and bodies — develop superpowers; we abruptly detect the future dangers that, if they continue to grow, will dominate our lives.

What I see dominating our lives is planet WWW: the World Wide Web. It is a universal tool. We can achieve mountain-top status in a heartbeat. This provides us with a chance to pull in minds and intoxicate them with nonsense.

This is happening right now: Unfit role models are regurgitating their ideas and we’re eating them up. The young are too. We’re all…
