The Day Mark Died

A Poem

It’s spring
a time
for new life
A boy
Mark
not yet 9
trumpet player, milky white teeth
4'2 in orthopaedic shoes
running laps
begging to stop
Then he falls
parents are called
children wait
in a hall
Carlos laughs
Maya cries
No one noticed Mark
until he died
