The Fast 800 diet comes from science writer and journalist Dr Michael Moseley, the creator of the ‘5:2 diet’.

This time, instead of eating just 500–600 calories a day, 2 days a week, it is now 800 calories. But before doing this ‘new 5:2 diet’, you are expected to eat only 800 calories every day for a period of 2–12 weeks!

To put my cards on the table, I’m a sucker for a fad. Not just with diets, but in all areas of life. Creating habits, journaling, personal development, productivity, exercise — you name a fad, I’ve probably tried it. And tried is the operative word. I have tried many things, but then I usually drop them quite quickly as well.

Over time I’ve noticed that what attracts me to fads is the excitement of the new. In the past, I would have grabbed on to certain ideas in the hope that this would be the thing to transform my life. The hack above all hacks!

Underlying this was the idea of succeeding in life without having to try very hard. I can be a terrible procrastinator, so I always hoped for the magic salve to cure all ills in my life. As time went on I realised that no such thing exists, and nothing beats hard work. Simple as (or should that be ‘hard as’?).

While my understanding has changed in this area, I am still drawn to new ideas and concepts in how to approach…
