time

these words morph time
to celebrate, to pause,
to breathe, to seek,
to ignite a life
when all seems bleak.

and in each break
entices an attempt
to bring confessed
beings, the unspoken
sins lingering in —

these words, often
offer time to heal,
to kneed for more.
yearning for a need
an expectation for —

words can hold
soulless moments.
and yet all I ask for is
for these intended
words to be heard.

A spoken-word version of this poem can be watched and listened here.

This piece was heavily inspired by a friend’s writing on the notion of time belonging to no one, where it struck me how poems can hold time.
