Weapons of Mass Disruption

Dear Medium, why can I read your stories on a smartphone but not on my laptop?

This is completely bizarre. I detest smartphones, but own one because there are things like memberships that require having one. But if Medium is catering to the smartphone or tablet crowd, they’re going to lose me.

I won’t stand for this. I refuse to fall into a state of stupidity as so many people have.

When I open Medium on my laptop it starts out with *no* recommended stories. If I keep re-clicking on any Medium logos I eventually get a list of stories, but only the subtitles are shown! What is wrong with you, Medium. Can’t Ev afford to rent a couple of computer coders?

I ultimately figured out that IFF I could get that screen of subtitles going, I could hover over the picture image and down on the lower left of my screen could puzzle out the title of the goddam story. This is beyond stupid.

I’ll be changing banks in two weeks. I’m going to have to renew my membership on Medium, or . . .

I’m tired of being fucked by you. For my hundreds of stories over 2 or 3 years, and thousands of responses and drafts, you’ve never paid me a penny. Yet you’ve canceled my membership twice when my stupid American bank didn’t pay you, or once when your own Zendesk canceled me.

Luckily I write on other platforms, about 9 of them actually. Every single one of them is competent. I have no idea why Medium is going for mediocrity, but that is happening. If ever there was a rudderless ship it’s Medium. You just have to keep pissing off the good writers, and many of us are now moving on.

It’s a shame. Your interface and default typesetting is fantastic. Too bad you’re wasting that on a new crop of hacks.
