A little kitten as white as snow strutted with swagger in what she assumed to be the dangerous jungle, harnessing her inner vicious lion. In reality, she was in the Smiths’ back garden, but no one but you and I have to know that.

The cat’s ears were alert, her hearing sharp and detecting and snap of twigs, any chirping bird, and any rustling in the leaves. In the middle of her confident strut, she halted abruptly, her curious, hunting gaze landing on a massive caterpillar worming its way onto the flower bush a few feet away from her.

This was her chance to prove she was not to he trifled with!

Stretching forward slowly and adjusting her shoulders while her spine shifted, the kitten dove into her hunter-stance with effortless ease. She kept her gaze on the caterpillar, getting ready to pounce on it and end its poor life.

Two quiet seconds ticked by, her ears fluttering with every sound wave, before she launched herself forward, jumping at the flowers and toppling over the caterpillar off the leaf it was taking residence on. The snowy cat fell on her back, but she quickly repositioned herself and pawed at the flowers angrily, in search of the caterpillar. The poor target was busy sluggishly moving away from the cat, right under her knows beneath the flower bush, and she had no idea.

The cat finally got distracted by the flowers, and she tentatively brought her nose close to them and sniffed. It was a strange smell to her, causing her to recoil and let out a tiny sneeze. She stepped backwards, eyeing the flower bush as though it offended her.

“Whiskers!” A female voice exclaimed, causing the kitten to startlingly jump in her place and turn around to face the human that adopted her. “What’re you doing out here all by yourself?”

The woman shuffled into the garden and picked up the kitten, now known as Whiskers, and took her inside. Whiskers squirmed in her grasp, feeling utterly embarrassed for being picked up so effortlessly. She was a lion, for heaven’s sake! A lion hunting its prey in the jungle!

As Whiskers was gently placed on the kitchen tiles of the Smiths’ home, she immediately scurried away and towards the back garden once more. She needed to be out in the wild if she wanted to learn how to survive.

She once again stepped outside, the summer sun scorching her little body, as her long fur ruffled with the cool breeze that accompanied the sun. She blinked coolly, and suddenly, she tensed as her eyes clocked a harmless butterfly flapping its wings near her, and Whiskers lost her calm attitude almost instantly. Jumping up with her paws ready to thwack the colourful butterfly, Whiskers let out an excited sound, finally having another hunting target.

She kept grabbing onto the butterfly, but the beautiful insect somehow always managed to slip away, fluttering its mesmerising wings at Whiskers, which only seemed to tease the poor cat further, and amplify her irritation with her own hunting efforts.

“Whiskers!”

Oh, dear God, not again. At this point, Whiskers felt the embarrassment creep up her spine, and she let out a displeased meow. How dare this human interrupt her hunting activity in the wild? Now all the other lions nearby will mock her and call her a spoiled cub.

“Leave the poor butterfly alone and come here! I’ve got your lunch ready!” The woman called out, and Whiskers’ stomach involuntarily rumbled.

She wanted to catch her own lunch, thank you very much. However, when the woman pulled out Whiskers’ food bowl from behind her and showed it in Whiskers’s line of vision, the little cat couldn’t help it.

Perhaps being a pampered cat had its perks after all. And besides, no one but you and I has to know that she cheated by having a ready meal waiting for her which she did not hunt for. Whiskers relented, and finally approached the woman, dipping her face into her food bowl and enjoying her meal.

You can keep this secret, can’t you? For Whiskers’s sake, so she wouldn’t be mocked by her mighty lion friends of the wild.
