Let me help you with this. If you don’t know whether you are living by your core values or by capitalism, ask yourself these four questions:

  1. Are you doing the thing you are doing out of frustration and having no choice, or out of love?

2. Do you enjoy the thing you are doing or are you doing it just because of money?

3. Do you base your self-worth on your productivity and things that you do, or on who you are?

4. Do you feel guilty when you are being lazy?

Capitalism is tricky. It can mess with our life if we don’t know how to control it. But we can’t escape it as long as we are living in a capitalist society.

Let’s dive a bit deeper into this topic.

I grew up in a family where my values were based on what I do, not on who I am. It had a great impact on my life, especially on my self-esteem.

I based my worth on productivity, earnings, and external things, not on my core values. Deep down I had a sense of my core values, but it took me longer to start living according to them, and not according to productivity, capitalism, and other people's expectations.
