7 Remedies to Cure Writer’s Block
Simple and practical tips for New Writers.
Writer’s block — every writer's worst nightmare.
I read somewhere “Writer’s block happens when your imaginary friends refuse to talk to you.” Couldn’t agree more.
At least once in your journey into the world of the words, you get to face this inevitable enemy.
Lucky for me along the way I met some interesting people, mastered some writing tips, and now have them armed in my arsenal.
Thus in this post, I’ll be teaching you the tricks up my sleeve to slay the Dragon called Writer’s Block.
Hop on.
1. Stop — Take a break
First of all, after you hit the wall there is no use in pounding your head on it for hours.
Your “idea faucet” can run out sometimes. You may be burned out from continuously writing, or you lack of inspiration.
When that happens. You should learn to press the pause button and give yourself a break.
Hence, when you feel like the words didn’t fall into places the way you want, shut the laptop/close the notebook and leave the room.
It’s okay to take a break when you are tired, just don’t quit.
2. Coffee
I was not even a coffee girl before I became an avid reader, but now I can’t start my day without it.
Caffeine can fuel your engine and jump-start your system. (that’s why it is an adult drink). It’s like a magic potion that rejuvenates you.
So go grab the coffee mug, brew a drink as you desire, and let your soul refresh as you sit in the silent embrace of fresh air.
Let the coffee do its work.
3. Shower
A hot steamy shower or a cold one per your preference. Take one.
A relaxed one. Not for the sack of going back to work again. Let the fog lift in your head.
This place is a fountain of ideas. I fixed more plot holes during my shower than I did on my desk.

4. Go for a Walk
Out of all the 7, this one is my favorite.
Whenever I feel like losing my mind, I’ll leave everything, especially my smartphone, put my hands in my pocket, and go for a stroll.
It's effective and clears your head faster than you would expect.
Not gonna lie, it helped me think straight more than often before I made some stupid decisions (personally and professionally).
Walking or any physical activity like jogging, running, or gardening per se, will act as a Bramastra to kill the writer’s block. Don’t believe me? give it a try.
5. Try something New
New Song, a New genre of book, or a New Cuisine. it doesn’t matter. try something New.
You know the thing you always wanted to try but you never did. You could do that.
Once, I was suffering from severe writer’s block more like writer’s draught. Then out of the blue, I came across a song called New Rules by Dua Lipa for the first time.
Vibing to it for hours, It kindled up an idea for a storyline and pushed me to write a one-shot. After weeks I sat down and wrote like I was high (on words).
It laid the foundation for many more stories to come(I don’t wanna brag but I will) now it has developed into a fanfiction book with 1k+ reads on Wattpad.
Therefore expose your mind and body to an entirely new dimension. Allow the adrenaline to burst open the Dam of words.
6. Throw care to the wind
Usually, I find myself arm-wrestling with writer’s block when I consume and consider too much of rules.
The “ly”s, that, passive voice, perfect plot, better character development, finding the better equivalent for the word ‘said’. arggggghhhhhhh
Say “Shut up” to your editor self.
All of the perfectionism is your editor-self’s job, not the Writer’s. It is necessary, that you master the knack to separate these two always.
Therefore become a vampire, turn off your perfectionist, and write what’s on your mind even if it sucks as much as something like “His feet stepped”.

7. Edit Existing stories
Whether you are a fiction or a Non-fiction writer, the best way to fight the lie swarming in your head — “You can’t write no more” is, to prove yourself wrong.
At times like that, I turn to my old stories for refuge. Start reading and editing your stories/Blogs that are in drafts or reread, and re-edit the ones already published.
Not only does it inspire you to write again and more, but in the process, your work gets refined. It's two birds in one stone.
End note:
Writer’s block is a by-product of either being burned out (of ideas) or taking in poor inputs.
Check your mental health for both. Self-diagnose the disorder. Watch what type of content you are letting into your head and learn to sit back and relax from time to time instead of running on the clock.
These 7 remedies to cure writer’s block are the ones actually worked for me. Give it a swirl. tell me what you think
It is okay if you want to take a break for a couple of days, weeks, or months. It’s not the end of the world. Your work will be here waiting for you to come back, whenever you are ready, and so are your fans.
Hope this helps you to fight and cure Writer’s block
