Here’s the situation:

You may have been writing for awhile now. Many of us can trace it back to the earliest of our memories. We liked writing our names, and practicing cursive in school. As we got older, we kept writing in journals, and later, on our social media sites.

The point is, we have been doing it for a long time — even if some of us are just beginning to write publicly. But somewhere along the way, a few us forgot our earliest lessons in writing — using writing tools ( i.e. dictionaries and thesauruses, etc). It‘s so convenient now to have your spelling corrected as you tap away on your phone keyboard; so you might settle for writing that could be so much better if you just broke out of your shell.

Imagine this:

You are having a moment of writing clarity, just tapping away on your keyboard (or writing on paper). The words are flowing (for once!) and the idea is growing until — bam — you get stuck on one word. You can’t quite find the right word to describe your next thought.

The first word that comes to mind is close to what you’re trying to convey, but the tone is a little off. Or, you think of another choice, but this word seems like it could…
