My Plan for Getting (Re)Started on Medium

I’ve been on Medium since the beginning. Now, it’s time to get started.

Technically, I’ve been on Medium since sometime in 2013. And while I published a few random posts over the last several years, I’ve never been a very active user. Sure, I’ve stumbled upon some stories and scrolled through a few feeds and related articles, but I’ve never been consistent.

I never really gave Medium a real chance after those first few weeks. Now, I’m going to change that. I spent the last few weeks doing some research and coming up with a plan for how I am going to get started on Medium. Again.

Medium has gone through a number of changes over the last few years. Recently, they adopted and updated the Medium Partner Program, which empowers writers. Sure, many publications have left Medium for a number of reasons. But some have started up, and more writers than ever are finding a home here.

The power seems to be shifting to the writers and creators, and that kind of ecosystem is hard to find. Most writers who write full-time for a living get only a portion of the profits. Publishers and publications get the lion’s share. Freelancers and part-time writers have similar, but more significant, struggles. They get a smaller piece of the pie, and the work they put in is…
