On Drinking Wine

In case you’re wondering. . . Yes, I’m drinking wine while writing this and enjoying every sip. Life is meant to be enjoyed after all. And just in case you’re wondering what kind of wine, it’s a Shiraz. But I drink all kinds of wine depending on the reason or the season, whether it’s a fancy dinner with friends or just a glass or two at home with myself like tonight.

But where was I? Oh, yeah. Wine. . .

I honestly was just sitting here enjoying a good glass of Shiraz and about to begin writing something but I couldn’t decide if I should carry on with writing my first fiction novel, which I really need to do, or if I should just write another Medium post/article/story/whatnot. So, as usual, I went with the easier route and decided to just write something about drinking wine. I’m constantly avoiding possible success with the completion of this novel so that seemed appropriate.

I have no real idea of what the hell to write about so writing about drinking wine seemed like a fun idea. Who doesn’t come up with some “amazing” ideas while under the influence of a good glass of wine?

I’m a big believer in drinking modestly but it’s ok to indulge yourself every now and then. So, tonight, I’m indulging.

Wine (or really any alcoholic beverage but especially wine) really brings people together. Ask the Italians and Greeks. They know what I’m talking about. And yes, I do miss being in those places. . .but back to what I was saying. . .

Wine is the glue that brings people together and eases the tension in-between.

It’s the elixir of life that allows our minds to take a break and our hearts to open up to what we’re really feeling. Thinking. Wanting. Sometimes, you just have to let go of the day’s worries and . . .Relax. Enjoy. Unwind.

Wine is the glue that brings people together and eases the tension in-between.

It melts away the bullshit of the day and allows you to really feel what’s important in the world. What really matters. It’s so easy to get caught up in every day non-sense and noise that clouds out what life is really supposed to be. . . LIVING.

Full of Life. Joy. Happiness.

We often forget to just LIVE.

We’re usually busy pleasing this person or that. Making sure this is done right or we didn’t do it at all. Constantly worrying about did we do this good enough or what about that. But when we just stop. . . and enjoy life for what it is. LIFE. Things begin to change.

We begin to feel ALIVE and life becomes more enjoyable. More relatable. More worth living. We become so full of life and remember that our purpose on this Earth isn’t to Work. Live. Die.

It’s to LIVE.

Alive and Free.

To run wild.

Now, just to be clear, I don’t think we need wine (or alcohol) to feel ALIVE. But it does help us to remember why we’re here. It does temporarily loosen us from the bonds of living the ol’ eight to five. But we can have that sense of life, that sense of purpose in so many other ways that probably won’t slowly damage our health.

We can find other ways to feel free and full of life. Painting. Art. Writing. Hell, even sailing a boat or whatever it is that makes you feel ALIVE. Just as long as you’re not hurting anyone in the process. These and many more are ways we can feel alive and live more fully.

This is what most of us are missing when we feel lonely or wonder what’s next. Sometimes, we just need to FEEL ALIVE and appreciate all of the beauty life has to offer in whatever moment we’re in.

So, now that I’ve said what’s on my heart, I’m going to close for now with this. . . LOVE YOUR LIFE.

And if you don’t, then change it to where you do. Life is too short to wait and put off what you could be doing today to make yourself happy now and in the future. And you don’t need a glass of wine to do it.

Just a heart ready to Live.

Love you, Skye 😘
