A COVID “poem” to be released in the future

It was the year 2020, and the earth needed a break. A break from all the pollution, noise and activities of human. And the whole world was quarantined. All over the world, people from different countries and cultures, we were all quarantined.

And the earth started replenishing, and streams gave life to fishes, and rivers cleared up, and the ozone layer repaired itself. And oh, the earth was green again, with trees and plants shooting up. With planes and cars grounded, the air was naturally filtered and pure again. And it was a beautiful moment.

And while we were quarantined, we realized we had taken everything we had for granted, especially human relationships and interactions. We realized how ungrateful we had been by not recognizing the blessings around us and the blessings we enjoyed.

Talk about the freedom to move about, the ability to see and hang out with your favourite people, the blessing of eating your best meal, the blessing of working and earning. We had taken everything for granted, and nature was taking it all back and punishing us.

It was the year 2020 and suddenly keeping away from everyone was the new required standard of living. Staying home was every Government’s message and priority. And handshakes were forbidden, and body contact was an offense. Schools were shutdown and businesses closed, and many parents dreaded staying home together with their kids and spouses.

And this was just the 1st quarter of 2020. Parents started appreciating teachers, spouses started appreciating partners who were always out working to earn something. Businesses collapsed, employees were laid off and we became broke, and governments had to take care of everything, and Presidents were the most pitied.

It was the year 2020…. Doctors and nurses couldn’t have a break, they sacrificed a lot including their lives. And many doctors died, and nurses got infected, and most patients recovered, and scientists were lost in research, and medical scholars lost in thoughts, and the World was discombobulated. And oh yeah, this was 2020.

So I stayed in my room, roaming the internet and being lonely. And my heart was broken, for all the families that had to endure poverty cus nobody could go out to work. So we prayed together as one World, with everyone calling out to God to heal the land, and yet when most patients recovered, we couldn’t even notice that was God at work. And yes, this was all 2020…..and I couldn’t finish this poem

Social distancing was the new term, and social media was the order of the day. And the days echoed slowly, and we didn’t know if there was any future again. The phrase, “after the covid” became the new appointment scheduling date. And days passed, nights lingered, and it was all still 2020 and we were all quarantined.
