To get specific information we used to have to visit the local library.

Trawling through towers of books in search of the nuggets of information needed?

It’s not the case now.

There is an infinite amount of information at our fingertips. Smartphones and laptops are never more than arms length away.

Companion or Curse?

There’s much to gain here.

Our devices, akin to an extra limb, support our busy lifestyles. The stats say so.

According to finder.com

In 2023, 87% of UK adults own a smartphone. 96% of 16- to 24-year-olds own a smartphone, but just 69% of over-65s own a smartphone. Brits spend an average of 4 hours and 14 minutes a day on their smartphones.

8 in 10 people (81%) say their smartphone keeps them up at night.

Cue the Curveball.

We crave our phones.

They connect us with friends and family.

They tell us almost everything we need to know. The keep us company. They keep us entertained. They keep giving.

We consume.

We scroll. We find. We flick. We tick.

We detour, we detract. We disconnect.

I have discovered that often , we lose that what we went looking for.

Overconsumption creeps in, and the cruel reality is that we can become counterproductive.

It’s keeping us up at night.

And I’m curious, when we cast our net- how much of what we catch is actually worth keeping?

Have we space in our psyche for all these surplus shards of information?

And that my friends, is the question I’ll continue to ask.
