When looking to quote and reference an author or source in doing research for an article, I often hit propriety software such as Kindle, Google Books or others that disallow copy and paste.

The question is how to quickly recover a text quote off what is effectively an image?

This is the method I use, I'm sure there are other ways, this one is fast and fuss free, the proviso is you are using Windows 10:

  • Locate the text you wish to copy, on any web media (if it’s on your computer screen you will be able to copy it)
  • Find and click on the Snipping Tool in Windows Accessories
  • Click New on the open tool and drag your cursor around the text to be copied.
  • Then hit File > Save As. It can be saved as a PNG or JPG file, either is fine for this purpose.
  • Note exactly where you save the file.
  • Go to https://www.onlineocr.net/
  • Hit Select file, upload you file. Where the drop down box indicates Microsoft Word choose :

Hit Covert and you should get a perfect copy of the text you wish to quote. Check the text carefully it may have a few minor miscoversions.
