As a self-published author, traditional marketing methods would not be open to you. This is understandable because traditional marketing requires a lot of funds. So you will have to look for alternative ways to market your book. One of the most effective methods is to establish an author blog of your own. Author blogs are relatively easy to set up and maintain, and as long as you post quality content, you will be able to attract a solid fan base. But if you want to consistently attract potential fans to your author blog, you will need to update your blog. It could be your website design, format, or easier navigation through your site. These updates and improvements will show visitors that you care about your site, and that it is worth visiting.

2. Regularly create great content

Aside from updating your author blog, you should also make sure that the content you post on your blog is high quality. Your blog design may be the reason why people start visiting your blog, but it will be your content that will have them come back. You don’t have to post content on a daily basis of course. Maybe once every 2 days. That way potential readers will see enough examples of your work to pique their interest in your book.

Twitter is one of the most widely used social media platforms. It is also free to use, which makes it a perfect marketing platform for your book and other works. If you are releasing your book, you can announce the release date through Twitter. You can also post excerpts or even hold online contests through your Tweets.

4. Post excerpts through various writing communities

Besides posting new content through your author blog, yet another way you can market your work is by posting them through various writing communities. This is why you should join as many writing communities as possible. You can join fan fiction sites or book clubs. Through these sites, you can post examples of your work, and expand your fan base in the process.

5. Keep in contact with fellow writers and your fan base

If you want to market your work effectively, you should make it a priority to stay in contact with your fellow writers and your fan base. Make them feel valued and thank them for their continued support. Even if you have only a few fans at the beginning of your writing career, their continued support and patronage is still a great help throughout your journey as a writer.
