6 Ways to Make the Writing Process More Fun

While writing may be a very satisfying undertaking, it is not conventionally a fun task. The act of writing is very multi-faceted and takes a great degree of concentration and preparation. So while there are some parts of the writing process, that you could call enjoyable, it is mostly a lot of work.

However, it does not really need to be such a trying process. With just a few tweaks to your writing routines, you will be able to make the writing process so much more enjoyable. Here are 6 ways to make the writing process more fun.

1. Change your Perception

One of the main reasons why writing does not seem fun for some people, is the fact that it seems very difficult. This is a damaging misconception, because writing is only difficult if you already believe that it is difficult.

So if you are going to start on any kind of writing project, it is always a good idea to change your perception on writing. Don’t think of it as a chore or something that just needs to be done with. Instead, you should look at it as something that you genuinely enjoy doing.

2. Ease off the pressure

When a writer puts pen to paper, there is always a pressure to create great work. This is understandable, because why would you put in hours of your time writing if your work is not of the best quality possible? However, this kind of pressure would likely make you wary of starting on any type of writing project.

It might instill in you a fear of failure, to the extent that you won’t do any work at all. So it is best that you ease off the pressure. This does not mean that you should stop caring about the writing process. It just means that you don’t put too much pressure on yourself. Just do the best that you can, and try to improve your craft day by day.

3. Write about something that your care about

If you want to make the writing process more enjoyable, it is always a good idea to write about something that you genuinely care about. Don’t choose a topic just because it is trending or more likely to get you more readers. Instead, you should choose a topic that you want to teach other readers about. It could be a philosophy or concept that you espouse to. It could also be about an event in history that you want to bring to the public light. You could write about practically anything. What’s important is that you sincerely care about the topic, and you know exactly what you are writing about.

4. Make it a habit

One of the best ways to make writing more enjoyable, is to make it a part of your day to day schedule. Remember that human beings are creatures of habit so if your writing schedule is inconsistent, and you only do it once every few days, then it won’t be a part of your daily routine. If you do it on a daily basis though, it will become a habit. It will become so indispensable to your routine that if you can’t do it even once a day, you’ll feel deprived and start craving for it.

5. Read new content

When it comes to creating great content, it is important that you open yourself up to new sources of inspiration. So it makes sense that you read new content on daily basis. This content could be a new book, a newspaper article or a blog post. It could be practically anything. What’s important is that you open yourself to new concepts and learn something new every day.

6. Take a break from the writing process

Although it is important that you invest time and effort into your writing, it is also a good idea to take a break every once in a while. The writing process is very multifaceted. There will be times where you are very productive, and you could write for hours on end. However, there will be times where you just don’t feel like writing. There will be times where you just don’t feel creative, no matter how much you push yourself. It is during these times that you should take a break from the writing process. Take a walk, or try out a new hobby. Give yourself a few days break from the writing process. This will give you a chance to get refreshed, and actually miss the act of writing.

Conclusion

If you’ve been writing for a couple of years, you would know that writing takes a lot of work. It is enriching and satisfying for sure, however, it is not a really such an enjoyable prospect for most people. Luckily, with these tips you will be able to make your writing process a whole lot more fun.
