If you are thinking of having a book of your very own published, you should know that it is not a walk in the park. It is a long and arduous process that will take a lot of work and resources. And if you are thinking that you could just jump into the process without a set plan, you will be in for a big surprise. So before you set out and publish a book of your very own, you will need a strategy to make the process run smoother. Here are 5 Great tips that will make the book publishing process a lot easier.

1. Know your target market

Before you even think of writing or publishing your book, you should really identify your target market. This is important because your target market will dictate how you write and market your book. By knowing your target market you will have a guide on how to write to your target market. It will also allow you to tailor your book marketing strategy according to the preferences of your target market. Overall, identifying your target market is the first step to publishing a book of your very own.

2. Have a set writing schedule

Once you begin the writing process, it is important that you have a set writing schedule. This is because the writing process can be very time consuming. And if you have a disorganized outlook on the writing process, you will most likely get disgruntled by the book writing process. So it is a good idea to have a disciplined approach to the writing process. When you make your writing schedule, you should choose a time where you have already finished your other day to day duties. It can be set early in the morning or late in the afternoon. What matters most though is that you can follow this schedule on a consistent basis.

3. Choose the right publishing option

Before you have your manuscript published, you should really look for the right publishing option. This is because this choice can affect the entire book publishing process. In this day and age, there are two viable book publishing options. These options are the traditional and self-publishing options. And before you choose an option, you should really know their pros and cons. That way, once you are ready to choose you will be able to make an informed choice. Here are some of their pros and cons to help you decide.

Traditional publishing: This type of publishing is by far the oldest and widely used of all the publishing options. It is also considered a very big deal to get a publishing deal with a traditional publishing house, because they are very picky with the books they choose.

Pros:

· The entire book publishing process will be done by the publishing house.

· The publishing house will also finance the entire book publishing process.

· Traditional publishing houses usually have great book marketing teams.

Cons:

· You will have to give up some of the rights to your book.

· You will have to give up a portion of the royalties of your book to the publishing house.

· You will have to give up creative control of your book to the publishing house.

Self-publishing: Self-publishing is relatively new compared to its more traditional counterpart. But even though it is a relative newcomer to the book publishing scene, it is still a very potent publishing option. And a myriad of writers have tried it out and have gained relative success.

Pros:

· You will get to keep the overall rights to your book.

· You will get to keep all the royalties to your book.

· You can get started on the publishing process right away.

· You will have overall creative control of the book publishing process.

Cons:

· Seeing as you won’t have a traditional publishing house to finance your work, you will have to pay for the entire process yourself.

· You will also have to do most of the work.

· It can be a bit difficult to market your book as a self-published author.

4. Hire a literary agent

Whether you choose traditional publishing or self-publishing, it always pays to have a literary agent. This is because it is a literary agent’s job to represent you to the media and to potential publishers. If you choose to publish your book traditionally, you will need a literary agent, because they will be the ones who will present your book projects to potential publishers. And even if you choose to self-publish your book, you will still need a literary agent. What if an established publishing house likes your book and offers to buy the rights to it? Who will negotiate the terms? Who will represent you? A literary agent will. All in all, a literary agent is someone who will have your best interest at heart. So take your time and choose your literary agent wisely.

5. Start the book marketing process as early as possible

If you are really serious about publishing a successful book, you will need to pay attention to the book marketing process as much as possible. This is because the book marketing process is a really multifaceted process. And it takes a lot of time and resources to properly make a fan base for yourself and your work. So before you even think of writing your book, you should really start marketing your book as early as possible. Luckily there are a lot of ways you can market your book as early as possible

One way is to create an author blog and post excerpts of your book and other writing projects through there. You can also post excerpts of your work through various social media sites or you can Tweet about your writing projects. You can also create your very own book video and post it through various video sharing. All in all, you will face a lot of competition when you start marketing your book. So you should really start the book marketing process as early as possible.
