A Drabble a Day 15: The Drabblecist.
A Drabble a Day words for 4/15–4/21
We open on a quiet street. Fog hangs heavily in the air. A lone figure stands before one of the houses, steeling himself for entry. In the background, we can hear the distant tinkle of piano keys.
It’s all so very moody.
The figure enters the house. In the front room, a couple stands close together. The woman is sobbing, the man seems vacant. He pats her absently as she blows her nose.
The figure ascends the stairs.
By the time he reaches the top, his breath comes out in puffs of heavy condensation. Noise issues from one of the rooms. He heads toward them.
Slowly, he opens the door, making sure to achieve maximum creakage. The room has mostly been stripped bare. Crosses hang everywhere. In the center is a bare mattress on an ornate frame. A woman sits cross-legged on the mattress.
She’s got a possessed face. You know what I mean.
“Welcome, Reverend,” she says. Her voice is low and very Kathleen Turnery. She opens her mouth and a tongue far too large to fit in her mouth snakes out and writhes against her chin.
