A Drabble a Day 16: Mad Grim Beyond Thunderdrabble
A Drabble a Day Words for 4/22–4/28
We open on a vast expanse of nothing. Empty skies, empty land. No trees, no buildings, no life at all. The sun blazes down on it all.
Suddenly, the air fills with roaring engines. A fleet of modified cars blast into view. You know the deal. There’s spikes and makeshift plating, the whole thing.
Near the rear of the crowd is a modified Winnebago. Two steel cages are mounted on the top. Each cage contains a man in a leather thong, trying to go-go dance despite the shaking of the rig. The one on the left is just this side of a skeleton. The one on the right is our hero, Grim Flandango.
“What I’m saying,” Grim yells over the roar of the engines, “is that this can easily be viewed as a kind of horror film. I mean- I mean, it’s nuclear devastation. Civilization has fallen. What greater terror could we possibly think of? Man reduced to its basest, animalistic instincts.”
The skeleton man says nothing.
“Look, if we’re gonna keep this going, we’re gonna have to think outside the box.”
The skeleton man points behind them.
