Hello, and Happy New Year from the editor team here at The Fiction Writer’s Den! We hope it’s a great year for you and your loved ones.

For January, the prompts are themed around the idea of conflicts and contrasts, particularly concerning characters.

I’ve tried to make all of the ideas suitable to write as drabbles, so they can fit with Grim Flandango’s word prompts (and our soon-to-be-finishing ‘Drabble December’ event). But they should also work for your longer stories, too. Enjoy!

Idea 1

Focus on a character who has a secret. Is there something strange or deceptive about them? Perhaps you can hint at menace or danger without fully explaining…
