We here at the Den can’t believe that it’s halfway through December, and the holiday season is here! ☃️

If this is a time of celebration for you and your loved ones, we hope you have a wonderful time. And we also hope you find time to rest, recharge the batteries, and get into a creative mindspace.

Remember, we accept flash fiction and short stories, 100-word stories (drabbles), and more! We also welcome your community-focused author stories (e.g. lists of recommended reads), and pieces about the craft of creative writing.

Coffee Break Reads

The new Read For Read (R4R) project for sharing out flash fiction is ready to launch. Several authors have shared their work, and the first list of stories will be with you in the next couple of days

However, there’s still time to join! Find out more here:

Prompts Ahoy!

Last month, lots of you submitted stories based on the monthly set of prompts. You can see the responses here.

And there is a set for December, too: ‘Writing Prompts as the Seasons Turn’. We’ll share a list of responses in the New Year, so keep the stories coming!

You can always find older challenges via our prompts tab.

Choose Your Own Fiction

As mentioned last month, we’ve been moving towards adopting ‘CYOA’ (Choose Your Own Adventure) stories into the Den. These now have their own tab and category, as you can see at the top of the homepage. Please, read and enjoy!

CYOA stories can be collaborative, or you can develop your own (just like a series). In the latter case, please let us know your plans, in line with the process for serial fiction (see submission guide).

To help with this new type of story, we are also welcoming in two new editors to the Den, both wonderful people and specialists in CYOA fiction: Sieran Lane and Mojave Green. Check out examples of their work below!

Submission Guidelines Review

Last month, H.R. Parker shared some information on recent updates to our submission guidelines. Check out her update here!

I just have one thing to add, which is that series should now be tagged with ‘serial fiction’ (previously we used the tag ‘web novel’, but that often isn’t accurate, as some series are much shorter than a novel!).

We can fix tabs for you, of course, but just in case, it can help if you make sure that one of your tags matches a categories from the top of the homepage (that’s simpler, right?!).
