This is a ‘choose your own’ story of trial and punishment, set in the year 1800. Click here for the story’s beginning. For the previous chapter, click here.

Soon you’re with Maria’s gang at a dockside inn. A nobleman has come, and you gather that he’s a French exile they plan to put in place of King George III.

“When our plan is complete, it’s goodbye to the protestant filth,” cries the nobleman. “England won’t dare stand opposed to Lord Napoleon.”

“And Ireland will be free, too!” pipes up one of the gang.

“Let’s not be hasty,” replies the noble.

There’s an awkward silence, but soon, Maria starts assigning duties — assassinations, infiltrations, or outright attacks on the King’s regime. It all sounds very risky.

“And you?” she asks.

You opt to…

  1. Stick close to Maria (click here).
  2. Attack the King’s palace at first light (click here).
  3. Offer to wait at the docks for further arrivals (click here).
  4. Return to base in the sewers and stand guard (click here).
  5. Start asking more questions about your brother (click here).

This story contained one of Grim Flandango’s words from ‘A Drabble a Day 42: Drabble Man’: ‘dare’. More on this story soon. Check out other CYOA stories at The Fiction Writer’s Den.
