While Maria’s gang disperse, you stay close.

“Alright?’

She sighs, gazing along the riverside. “Now the usurper’s here… what about me?” She fiddles with the lever on her pistol.

“Well, if they fail…”

“We all get hung. There’s already a warrant for my arrest.”

“Maybe having lit the fuse, it’s time to lay low.” You nod towards a riverboat. “That’s about to depart, heading upriver.”

She raises an eyebrow.

“I got family that way. Cosy cottage. Great place to get to smooch.. ahem… I mean, to lie low.”

Maria hesitates, then smiles. “At least you’re more direct than your brother.”

The End.

Ambiguous ending? You can decide if Maria shoots the protagonist for their cheek, or if they head off into the sunset together.

This story contained one of Grim Flandango’s words from ‘A Drabble a Day 43’: ‘warrant’. Check out other CYOA stories at The Fiction Writer’s Den.
