This is a ‘choose your own’ story of trial and punishment, set in the year 1800. Click here for the story’s beginning. For the previous chapter, click here.

With a few of Maria’s gang, you cross back down to the dock. It has been explained that more spies and infiltrators are expected; they’re not going to risk all coming on one vessel.

British soldiers pass by, and you tense up. But they don’t stop. A bottle of rum is passed around, and you take a swig. It warms your chest and stomach, and settles your nerves.

It’s a full two more hours before the next French vessel arrives. This time, it’s mercenaries that disembark. Dangerous men and women. Violence will come soon.

And you’re still holding the rum.

You…

  1. Sneak onto the French ship (click here).
  2. Glug down all of that delicious rum (click here).

This story contained one of Grim Flandango’s words from ‘A Drabble a Day 43’: ‘cross’. More on this story soon. Check out other CYOA stories at The Fiction Writer’s Den.
