This is a Drabble — a story of exactly 100 words. This drabble was inspired by the thousands of electric linemen who poured into Western North Carolina and the other hard-hit areas of the southeast after Hurricane Helene. Those men and women are truly heroes whose efforts deserve to be hailed.

If you want to and are able to help those in such dire need due to the ravages of Hurricane Helene, CLICK HERE for a list of vetted organizations that are already in the area working hard for those who need it most.

The prompt word from Grim Flandango for Tuesday, October 1, was CONTINUOUS.

Likes knights of old on their white chargers they crossed many miles to reach those in need of their special skills.

A continuous line of white trucks rolled into the devastation left behind by Hurricane Helene, bringing hope and power to those who had lost so much.

Even as the storm was throwing its last blows, these brave men and women were ascending to the heights to restring the wires that would restore power to the water systems, the hospitals, the shelters, the kitchens, and the homes that remained standing.

They were welcome and cheered as heroes, and rightly so.

If you enjoyed this drabble, you’ll love those by some of these other accomplished drabble writers here on Medium: Hannah Greer, B.K. Chapple, H.R. Parker, Rena Aliston, Eva MacInnes, and Grim Flandango.

This is the only song I know that sings the praises of those power company workers who keep the energy flowing.

As a firefighter, I totally agree with everything in your article. Research on firefighter mental health so clearly shows that the only way past trauma is to address it like you write.

There are moments in life that change us forever. We don’t know them as they happen or even that they’ve changed us until often much later.

Sometimes, I look around the world now and I think we’re going through one now. The world is changing. That…

It was as if I’d suffered an exposure to a toxic agent that takes two months to kill you, but nobody knew. So, I went about my life as we are expected, but the pain became unbearable.

I remember when this happened, Brother. I'm so sorry you experienced it and feel for this poor child and the ones who loved her. As the father of two daughters, it still hits hard for me as well. Great message in this one, I'm sure it wasn't easy to write.
