I Hate You, Dewey

(SYSTEM)

We wandered the Pine-Sol scented halls until we reached the school library. Once a week, the first-graders had class time with two librarians who traded off days, Ms. D. and Mrs. A. These ladies were my favorite teachers.

Before silent reading, each child could check out two books if they’d returned last week’s, and the ladies would help us make age-appropriate selections.

Then came the day when Library Time was renamed Library Science. We were introduced to the Dewey Decimal System, which I hated.

That day, I vowed I would exact my revenge and rearrange the entire card catalog system.
