Lincoln knew the voice. He’d grown up listening to it. Slowly, he turned around to face the voice’s owner.

“Hello, Dad,” Lincoln said, his voice rife with disdain.

“Hello, Lincoln. I wanted to be here in person to tell you your movement is dead. You and Sage are the only two Conformists left. Drones have destroyed your device orbiting beyond the moon. Your new facility under the car wash is in our hands and being dismantled at this moment. We’ve identified all your subjects on Earth, and they will be monitored.”

Lincoln managed a wan smile. “They’ll outlive everyone on the planet.”

The General shook his head. “I’m afraid they won’t. Our teams are meeting with them and deactivating their nanobots.”

“These aren’t the only ones we treated,” Lincoln said, trying to boost his courage.

“We are aware of this, Lincoln. Fortunately, Patty and Nate were unable to purge your records before our team arrived.”

“You have Patty and Nate in custody?”

“No, Lincoln. They attempted to resist.”

Lincoln sank to his knees. Sage ran to him. He waved her away and struggled to his feet.
