They sit, eating with their peculiar manners, gripping their cutlery with conformity. They flash their teeth between bites, feigning something. Laughter? Camaraderie? He doesn’t know. He studies them carefully, taking care not to gawk at those for whom this is a normal dinner.

He desperately wants to draw some crumb of positive reinforcement from these people.

Every so often, those uniform pearly teeth flash his way. He senses pity, this is bad.

Not just big fish in this gilded mahogany pond. Sharks.

All he’d ever wanted was a seat at the table.

Now how the hell will he keep it?
