This drabble — a story of exactly 100 words — is based on a scene from my novel “One Boy, Two Islands” and is a response to Idea 1 of The Fiction Writer’s Den June Prompts. It takes place on a New Hampshire lake when two teens get caught by a sudden summer storm while sailing from an inhabited island to one that has been left in its natural state. Please remain on this page for at least 30 seconds to allow your visit to count as a read. Claps, highlights, and comments are much appreciated. Thank you.

I checked to see if Bobbi was looking. She was studying the approaching storm.

I doffed my clothes and donned the life vest.

Bobbi commented, “I think the storm will pass south of us. We may not even get rain.”

I slid into the water. “Aren’t you worried about lightning?”

Bobbi turned in the water, put her arms on the boat, and looked at me. “This one doesn’t look like a thunderstorm. We’ll probably just get wind and rain.”

“I hope you’re right. Being found naked and electrocuted floating around in a lake is not how I want to go.”
