Today was the day everything would change for Jacob. Right now, he should be preparing for his Unbinding Ceremony with his coven, but instead, he was preparing to be the cause of their ruin.

Yes, today’s Black Mass would finally give Jacob access to the power he had been promised by Donovan after the High Council bound his powers all those years ago.

At the time, he had been too young to understand what was happening to his family. But now, thanks to Donovan and the other warlocks, he understood everything, and he would make them pay with their lives.

The coven I was born into has one rule when it comes to wielding magic: All magic must be used for the greater good of society as a whole. Any use of magic for personal benefit will result in immediate expulsion from the coven.

So, when my dad used magic to cure my mom’s cancer, he tried to justify it by saying that “strong family units” were beneficial to society as a whole. What he left out of his explanation was that he had cheated on my mom while she was pregnant with me, and he wanted to cure her because he still felt guilty.
