At the edge of the Forsaken Forest, in the thin darkness before dawn, two cloaked figures were looking out from behind a great redwood tree, observing a gathering at a great clearing in the woods.

“Will you look at that,” sighed Arondia, pushing back her silken hood. “Millions of them. Infesting the forest.”

“Goblins are so very different from us,” said Elenkir. He spoke in a rich sonorous voice with the timbre of a cello. “So stupid. So uncivilised.”

“Elenkir, we can’t have them infesting our forest, bringing their evil ways, their violence, their… noise pollution. We need to be rid of them.”

Elenkir nodded his elegant head, a righteous glow in his pale blue eyes. “Wise words. But how?”
