Wreckage on the Far Side
What will NASA think when they discover the ruins of a dry cleaners shop on the far side of the moon?
Lincoln squeezed his eyes shut and rubbed his temples. When he opened his eyes, Patricia and Sage recoiled from the serpent-like glare.
“We have moved a dry cleaners shop from a city on Earth to the far side of the moon, and you cannot explain how this happened.”
Patricia tilted her head toward Sage.
Sage said, “There was a surge in the local power grid at the moment of phase shift, resulting in the spontaneous expansion of volume in the shift envelope, causing it to encompass the building.”
“I understand that part.” Lincoln drummed his fingers on his desktop. “Why didn’t the sensors detect the anomaly and shut down the transfer?”
Sage lowered her eyes to her tablet, unable to meet Lincoln’s intense gaze.
“The instant of disruption occurred at a point when shut down was impossible. The system then went into secondary correction mode.”
Muscles in Lincoln’s jaw twitched. “And?”
“And, at the transition point, the extraneous material was expelled from the shift volume, the system…
