You’re Too Cool to JUUL

JUUL’s are an E cigarette that have rapidly increased popularity. What looks like a harmless USB device is something much than what it is to the eye.What many don’t know is that one pod contains as much nicotine as a whole pack of cigarettes. Countless teens and young adults use this product for obtain a buzz feeling but don’t know the impact it can have on their body and development.

JUUL has taken over about 70% of the retail marking sharing, this shows its uprising popularity for its taking over the market.

The JUUL has been estimated to be worth over 16 billion dollars. It’s sucess can be attributed to its unique and sleek design. Its meant to be small discrete and easibly accesable at any time. But due to this it has picked up in popularity in young teens. Many feel the need to being along and smoke thier Juuls within schools after getting hooked on the nicotine they dont know how to curve their addictions.

The small and sleek deisgn makes it easy to carry and discreet for targeted smokers who were once use to carrying around large packs of cigarettes. The intended usage of this product was to help wean smokers off of traditional and very harmful cigarettes. (File Photo)

The same features as to why the sleek design is a well engineered project, also make it attractive to young people. Many of these young adults have never smoked before which is causing an uprise of worry because JUUL’s are becoming successful at addicting a new generation to nicotine

In all the advertisements for JUUL, nothing is mentioned on the insane amounts of nicotine packed into one pod. The advertising is hip, colorful, and makes the user look cool. This is what helps drive sales and influence young people to pick one up and begin to use it not knowing exactly what it is, how harmful it is, and what its actual intended use was for. Many times the JUUL has been compared to a sleek new item of tech not a drug delivery device. The newest IPhone of E-cigarett market. The strategical marketing of the nicotine pods look much like something teens are very familiar with. All kids in this day and age are conditioned to want and use the newest tech to fit in and look cool. Thats why when surveryed 19% of young JUUL users did not know that it contained nicotine beacuse many picked it up to fit in with their peers.

During the past three decades, there have been numerous changes in the population of cigarette smokers, in the style of cigarette smoking, and in the composition of the cigarette product. When advertisements of JUUL are put along side the advertisments of old cigarette ads the similarities are uncanny.

The fight to end smoking in young adults was almost won. “The Real Cost” campaign advertising prevented an estimated 350,000 youth ages 11 to 18 from initiating smoking between 2014 and 2016, half of whom might have gone on to become established smokers. The daily usage of cigarettes feel very rapidly over the course of this campaign. But the creation of the JUUL in 2017 sparked a new popularity in the addicitive nicotine usage among young adults.

The number of young teens using cigatettes fell rapidly as a light was shined on the harmful effects of cigarettes.

The addiction to nicotine is even more common than we think. Many times those close to us who were non smokers have now become addicted after using a JUUL.

While JUUL’s are less toxic than other tobacco products, smoking is still one of the leading cause of preventable disease and death in the country. But there is a catch, using e-cigarettes like the JUUL have been shown to increase the likelihood of smoking cigarettes among young people. In addition to being packed with their own harmful effects.

JUUL set out to help combat cigarette smokers stop smoking traditional tobacco cigarettes but what was designed to stop a public health problem has now created a new one.
