Guest Blogging: Why It Doesn’t Work On You Anymore

Are you a cool blogger? Then you believe the following facts about yourself probably:

  • your posts ideas always rule;
  • everyone would be happy to see your article published at their blog;
  • if they do not accept your post… well, they lose awesome content. C’est la vie!

Wro-o-o-ong!

Your guest posts will never work on you if you think of yourself as a super-super writer able to write on different topics, offer his articles to other bloggers, and build some backlinks in such a way.

Yes, guest blogging is a very good opportunity for you to promote your own site, express yourself, and become more recognizable on the Web. But do you really believe that blogs owners do not understand your intentions? Oh, you do! Get ready for a big disappointment then.

Bloggers do not need content written for a link building only. Even if your article is original, well-written and interesting (well, you may think so at least), there are still small chances that it will be accepted for publishing.

What are you doing wrong? Why do your attempts fail when you try to outreach a blogger with your pitch? Is guest blogging really so hard to do?

Nope. But WHY the hell your cool pitches aren’t accepted??!

Don’t panic! You just miss 4 aspects while outreaching a blogger and asking him for a guest post submission. Here we go!

You do not read a blog carefully

You will not be able to offer them anything interesting and useful if you do not know what they want to see at their blogs. That is why you should read a blog carefully and analyze its content in detail. Find out, what type of content they publish often: usually, it is possible to define 2–3 main categories of a blog with the biggest number of articles; so, it means a blogger pays much attention to them.

It is not enough to read 1–2 articles to determine the topic which would be interesting for a blogger. Examine 5–8 posts, check the content carefully, and it will be much easier for you to generate some really cool ideas for this blog’s audience. When you do not know whom you write for, you’ll just waste your time.

You do not follow a blog’s style

Every blogger has his own writing style: he uses various tools to improve it; and being a writer, you have your own writing style, too. But big chances are, it differs from the style of the blog you are going to write your guest post for. So, it would be logical and necessary to check and analyze this blog’s style before pitching it ideas.

Do they prefer list-type articles? Do they use short paragraphs? Do they write in a funny manner to gain readers’ interest? It would be also great to check some articles of other guest bloggers: do they follow all guidelines of this blog? What was their writing style that helped them get published at this blog successfully?

You do not know a blog’s audience

You can tell a lot about a blog if you see its audience. Do not be lazy to analyze some before submitting your content to this blog: if the audience is active here, if they share posts, if they take part in discussions, if they express their thoughts about posts in comments — it means this blog will be a perfect platform for your guest blogging.

Readers’ comments can become a good source for you to generate ideas for a guest post: they may ask questions in comments, share some thoughts about problems that bother them much… And this is your good chance to come up with a post that will be interesting and useful for this blog’s audience. A blog’s editors will not be able to pass by a guest article that fits their audience well, because this is a great chance to get feedback (many comments, likes and shares — which is really good for a blog’s traffic).

You do not differ from other bloggers

Believe us, you are not the only one guest blogger who writes to different websites with his pitches. Guest blogging has become incredibly popular today, and many bloggers consider it a great weapon to and improve their own blogs’ positions. Every editor of some really good blog gets dozens of e-mails every day, where guest bloggers offer their works; so, your task here is to stand out from all of them and make an editor want to check and publish YOUR article:

  • say a couple of words about the blog and the blogger himself (but do not flatter him much, as it will be perceived as an attempt to appease);
  • share some links to your previously published works;
  • always call a blogger by name (Hello Admin!, Hello there!, Hello, Sir! — all these variants do not work well here).

One small tip to finish this article: do not do your guest blogging just for the number of backlinks; always try to choose good blogs with loyal readership, and try to come up with articles that will help readers solve some problems. It will be the best variant for you.
