Notes from my writing in February.

I wrote a similar post last month:

This is the second month of my experience to write as many posts as I can this year, and I find that monthly sum up a good way to evaluate my progress, and highlight issues and feedback to be better in the next month.

Medium Integrates Unsplash

Let’s start with a good news, recently Medium integrated the free image stock Unsplash.com, you don’t need to upload pictures, you can search by keywords directly in the post edit:

Press + and then the search tool.

Thanks Medium for this wonderful integration.

URL Can’t Be Modified

We can’t modify the post URL after posting it, that’s not a big deal for readers, but for writers this can be ugly, when you putted some extra information in the post title, and then decided to change it, Medium will keep the old URL:

I used Daily Journal in my posts before deciding to remove it later

Sometimes I want to customize the URL, for example a URL with just HELLO, but the post title will be HELLO FROM MY HOUSE, I find a good trick, I write HELLO in the title, then I publish the post but as unlisted, then I edit the title again and put the one I want.

Posts With Old Date

I imported an old post from my Wordpress blog to Medium, and I couldn’t find it in my list, I found later that Medium keeps the publication date that comes with the post. I don’t know if this is a good or bad feature, but good to know it.

Medium Tags

The tags are very important in Medium, if you don’t put the correct ones, the readers can’t see your posts, unless they are following you. This is not cool if you are new here and want to build your network to talk about specific topics, so make sure that you are using the best tags, you can have at most 5 per post.

My Post Target

My current target is to write at least one post per week, it is more comfortable than one post per day, but I think that I can write more now, some days I had lot of ideas to talk about, but I never forced myself to write.

Number of posts for February: 5 (plus one post in my Wordpress blog)

My Post Category

I’ll avoid the category analysis, I think that it is not good, I’ll let myself write about the topics that interest me, and I’ll not care if I write lot about one topic.

My Publication

I’ll keep my publication as collection of posts, but I’ll remove the note that I made at the beginning of posts, this is very hard to keep up date, and I think that people want to read the post, and not all the publication, it is not like if the publication was about one topic, so no more introduction.

Conclusion

I’m very happy about my writing experience, I start getting feedback, it is my new therapy where I can think and save my ideas for later. I like also the fact that I am not the only person who is in this situation, as I start finding others who are discovering the joy, fear and enthusiasm of writing.
