If someone asks you that “Would you be willing to put your hand into a molten metal for prize money of 1 Crore cash?” like this. What would you do?

No one dares to do that, despite that vast amount of money. Because your hand will damage permanently.

But If you know about a miracle phenomenon of science, maybe you will take a chance to win the 1 Crore hard cash. There’s a name for that.

It is the Leiden Frost Effect.

The Leiden frost effect is a physical phenomenon in which a liquid, close to a surface that is significantly hotter than the liquid’s boiling point, produces an insulating vapour layer that keeps the liquid from boiling rapidly. Because of this ‘repulsive force’, a droplet hovers over the surface rather than making physical contact with the hot surface.

It is most commonly seen at the time of cooking. If you sprinkled a few drops of water on a hot cooking pan it takes more time to evaporate than normal time.

Because the pan’s temperature is now at or above the Leiden frost point, which is approximately 193 °C (379 °F) for water. Thus the droplets of the eater when touching the hot pan creates a vapour layer between the hot pan and the water droplet.

So the heat of the pan cannot get into the rest portion of that water droplet for some time. After that, the vapour gets evaporate and heat will enter into the rest portion of that water droplet.

You can use this phenomenon by wet your hand with water before putting that into molten metal and quickly get your hand out from the molten metal.

Do you think it’s crazy?

Then look at it

A crazy man puts his hand in the molten metal. I think his hand will melt. This guy seems to be crazy.

But he knows the miracle phenomenon of science Leiden frost effect. He wet his hands before putting in into molten metal.

And the Leiden frost effect saves his hand from melting.

He won the prize of Crore.
