What Is a Writer, Anyway?
If you can figure it out, you’re one up on me. But I’ll do my best.
That quote is one of my favorites ever on the craft of writing. Hemingway bled and then bled some more, creating some of our greatest literary fiction (“The Old Man and the Sea,” “A Farewell to Arms,” “The Sun Also Rises,” “For Whom the Bell Tolls”) … until he died in 1961 under curious circumstances.
