Against Promoting Tourism

Due to the negative effects caused by tourism, we are against promoting tourism in Taiwan. To begin with, tourism causes damage to our natural environment and cultural legacies. Some tourists litter the environment or cover historical sites with graffiti. In addition, a surge of tourists could make a neighborhood crowded and noisy, resulting in some locals complaining that tourism has affected their living quality. Although advocates of tourism might claim that tourists can boost our economy, Taiwan has spent a lot of money on infrastructure just to attract foreign travelers. Many resorts and hotels stand empty once tourists leave. We therefore recommend that the government should cut down the number of tourists allowed to sustain our environment, living quality, and economy.
