AN EYE TO THE FUTURE

Writing real

Life is dangerous
80 MPH on a one-lane road
No helmet, no leathers
Adrenaline power
Standing on a mountain
Naked as the rain begins to fall
In love and afraid
Write a word and then another
Feel the surge
Feel the danger
Feel the love
There is power here
And vulnerability
Pain, shame, and eventual death
Guaranteed
Throw my armor to the wind
Stand before gods and universe
Proud and alive

Some things are dangerous
Sometimes we must face down the danger
It doesn’t feel ‘brave’ to do this
It feels necessary
‘Risky behavior’ is just trying to get home

I have fear
I am not sure that I will do justice
So much road paved with emotions behind…
