A young female named Mulan has been disguising herself as a male warrior in the Chinese army for the past 12 years. She claims that she did it to replace her elderly father who was too sick to serve and asserts that she has no regrets and would do it again. Once her service came to an end, she travelled back home to her incredibly proud family and after changing into her old female clothing, she revealed her true identity to her bewildered army friends.

Her incredible athleticism and skill comes from a lifetime of martial art training as well as sword training and allowed her to blend in amongst the expert male soldiers who had no idea that their comrade was actually a woman. Her army wear and a short military haircut seemed to convince everybody.

Unfortunately, her time in the army seems to have changed Mulan. Her family reports that she now claims to speak to the dragon-ghosts of her ancestors and often sings random songs about needing to be as swift as the coursing river and mysterious like the dark side of the moon.

Not long after her conscription into the forces, she became one of the best soldiers that the army had to offer. Throughout her 12 years of service, she helped the Chinese army defeat many enemies and become one of the best in the world.

Her commanding officer claims “He…I mean she was one of our best. I would have never have guessed that Mulan was a woman. During one of our missions she singlehandedly defeated over 100 enemy soldiers! It’s a real shock to me and everyone who knew him…her.”

Reflecting on her time in the armed forces, Mulan says “I could not have imagined just how wonderful my time in the army would be. I thoroughly enjoyed the challenges each day brought and I was incredibly happy to fit right in with the amazingly talented soldiers in my regiment. I have made friends for life and I am just one example showing that women are as strong as men… if not stronger!”

In many countries today, women are not allowed to join the army and the soldiers serving on the front lines are predominantly men. Mulan’s admirable sacrifice for her family proves to everyone that women are capable soldiers and should be given the opportunity to fight alongside the men.
