The ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the strange death of a pensioner last week has revealed the elderly lady, who was found roasted in her own oven, has been identified as the cannibal behind kidnappings in the area. The town and the local area have been plagued by child kidnappings for over thirty decades. Up until last week, local police had no evidence or leads regarding the disappearance of numerous children. Since then, the skeletal remains of over fifteen children have been found buried in the pensioner's rose beds.

The children of Jacob Wilhelm, the town’s woodcutter, had been missing for a number of weeks. When last Thursday the two children appeared from the woods, running in hysterics. The children claimed to have been held hostage by an elderly lady who “wanted to eat” them.

Gretel, aged 6, was forced to carry out housework whilst her brother, Hansel aged 9, was locked in a cage and force-fed. The pair saw a chance to escape when the elderly lady demonstrated how to climb in the oven. Fortunately, they were able to push her in, shut the door, and run away.

It is believed the pensioner had been operating from her secluded cottage in the woods for some time. The cannibal is said to have lured victims by covering the cottage in brightly coloured sweet treats, attracting the attention of lost or passing children. In the kitchen of the cottage, there is a large hearth oven and the majority of the living room is occupied by a locked cage, presumably where unfortunate victims resided whilst being fattened up.

Chief Inspector Friedrich Schmidt said in a public statement “This is a grim and ghastly case. It will take time to identify those who have fallen victim to the hands and stomach of this terrible individual. However, we will be working around the clock to bring peace and justice to victims and families involved.”
