Shrek, 40, has today revealed that he is divorcing his wife of 14 years, Princess Fiona, 35.

A spokesman for Shrek confirmed to Medium this afternoon that: “In response to the recent speculation, Shrek is extremely sad to announce his separation from his wife of 14 years, Princess Fiona.”

“Shrek asks for privacy at this difficult time and will release a further statement in due course.”

A source close to the once happily-ever after couple said: “Shrek is extremely disappointed that his marriage to Princess Fiona has broken down. He feels that he has been unfairly treated, especially with the recent speculation surrounding the Princess and her relationship with one-time lover, Lord Farquaad.”

The couple have known each other since 2004, when Shrek and his close companion Donkey rescued Princess Fiona from the tallest tower of the hg

Medium has contacted Princess Fiona’s estate, Far Far Away for further comment.

Shrek has been living apart from partner Fiona since last year, having moved out of the couples £30 Swamp which they purchased following their wedding in May 2004.

At the time, Fiona cast aside doubts that the couple had fallen on hard times because of her relationship with Duloc King, Lord Farquaad claiming that: “Myself and Lord Farquaad do have a history, but that means nothing.”

Two years ago, the couples close friend, Donkey, was overheard discussing the fairy tale couples difficulties whilst out with his wife, Dragon, in a nightclub. According to reports, he stated that: “I know Shrek wants this to work out and I hope it does, but what Fiona has done is just unforgivable.”

This news comes at a time when many fairy tale couples are experiencing difficulties in their relationships. Just last year, newlyweds Anna and Kristoff announced they were separating after a drunken night in which Olaf sunk his carrot into more than his face.
