Morning Reflection: July 26, The Lullaby of July

I sit on my back-porch—feet propped up and chilled water in hand. It’s a humid July summer night, free of a breeze.

From the depths of Earth comes a deep, pulsating hum. The sound starts silently and crescendos to a deafening, shrill pitch. This rhythm continues for the duration of two months—locust season.

At night, as I sit on the porch, the sound comforts me like a lullaby. The lullaby of July.

Before my eyelids close, I catch sight of popping glows in the dark—fireflies. The night sky is filling with them now as colors of the sun wane.

Soon, the moonlight will be the only light-source on the wide country-side. But, a melodic hum will thrum through the night—filling the vast, moonlit silence.
