Life Has Twists and Turns

Walking into an infusion center is like walking into a parallel universe. It’s a place that has to provide hope. A place where patients and staff are cheerful and so very kind. Laughing and giggling, loving and hugging. Also, a place with an undercurrent of despair and helplessness. Where there’s serious conversations, tears and faces you just can’t erase from your memory.

The man next to me was in the hospital for 4 weeks and just started a high dose of outpatient chemo. He was laughing with staff and we were talking about our favorite sandwiches. Fluffernutter for me and Turkey and cheese for him. Talking about sandwiches because if you’re there long enough you get lunch, you’re there long enough for deep conversations with strangers. Hang on my beautiful new friend, hang on.

Just another twist and turn in this amazing life.
