Achievements Over Goals

Two days have passed and I have not stepped foot into a gym since Thursday night. Should I feel guilty? No. Am I supposed to feel that I should be there right now rather than sitting here writing? No.
I can’t say that I have always felt this way. These thoughts have played on my mind one too many times for my liking and I am sure that at some point in your life, if not right now, you have had these same feelings too. One thing’s for sure, there has to be a line drawn as to how much guilt we place on ourselves when we don’t make it to the gym, or partake in any form of exercise that is in our calendars. The way I see it, we need to find that medium of satisfaction when it comes to being ultimately happy with our accomplishments or achievements regardless of missing a day or so. We need to focus on the positive things that we have achieved rather than the things we didn’t. And of course we can apply this not only to our fitness regime but to anything in our daily lives. It could be work, study, or catching up with family or friends.
We set goals so we can work towards making them happen, its proof that there was motivation, excitement, and passion at the time of jotting these goals to paper, but how many people write down their accomplishments?
These are just as important and no matter how big or small they may seem, it is still a good visual of how much we have actually done so far, and what steps we have taken to reach the current goals. So I’ll start with mine from the past week.
My goal was to beat my 2 k in 11 minutes row to 9 minutes. I’ve only ever used the rowing machine to warm up before I get stuck into my strength training so I probably had high hopes with setting this time, but nevertheless, that was the goal!! I knocked off 50 seconds off my time, to me that number is a positive achievement. That feeling of self-gratification of beating my personal best is so addictive that I just want to jump back on there and beat it again, which I plan on doing tomorrow.
I also set out another goal to boost my gym routine, it’s something I thought I wouldn’t do. I booked a personal trainer. The reason I said I wouldn’t do this is because I have worked as a personal trainer myself for 6 years, and I know what I need to do, but this overwhelming feeling of excitement caught me off guard. You’re probably wondering what on earth is she talking aboutttttt. Let me explain my moment of epiphany. I was on the treadmill warming up prior to my weights session when I noticed one of what seems like a million trainers working the floor at the gym I go to, he was training his client in Boxing. Now, having worked as a personal trainer, I like to watch them in action, and I don’t mean in a creepy stalker type way, but in appreciation of their style. Every PT has a certain unique way of training, and this one just blew it out of the park for me. It could be because I miss boxing myself and to see an actual trainer work it properly is just refreshing. So I watched in envy, wishing I was punching out those boxing pads myself, I thought why just wish, why not do it? So, I am!! My first session in boxing is booked this Tuesday 18th, and I cannot wait.
I have missed the adrenalin rush when I am pushed to the max and feel like there’s a million goose bumps on top of my goose bumps. This is the feeling I am looking forward to again. My goals equal achievements and as long as I remember that, I have found my medium. Never knock myself down when things don’t go to plan, and concentrate on the good that has.
So whatever your goal, remember to always note your achievements no matter what. Your inspiration may start with someone else but it finishes with you. You are your only inspiration, your wants, your dreams, your desires, your goals, and only YOU can make things happen.
Stay Happy
