I miss you.

When someone says “I miss you,” it’s interesting to break down the phrase:

To say it to someone implies an audience. You are telling the person you miss that you are missing them in the present tense.

So to say “I miss you” is to say that you still carry a longing for the person despite them being right there in front of you.

“I miss you” turns into “I still miss you,” and in essence becomes a simple plea —

“Please, help me stop missing you.”
