CUBS ON DECK: Santos Fans Seven; Franklin, Pinango, McGeary Pace Double-A Tennessee Win

RHP Antonio Santos turned in his best start of the 2024 season on Sunday. The 27-year-old, who pitched overseas last year, needed just 58 pitches to complete 5.0 innings of two-hit ball and matched a season-high seven strikeouts. Santos struck out the side in his final inning of work.

Christian Franklin, the Cubs’ №25 prospect, was 1-for-4 with a bases-loaded walk in the 8th inning. Franklin also lined his 10th double of the year into right field in the Smokies’ six-run 5th inning.

Yohendrick Pinango, the Cubs’ №29 prospect, was 2-for-5, including an RBI single and a stolen base in the 5th inning. Haydn McGeary, the Cubs’ №14 prospect, was 1-for-4 with two runs scored.

AROUND THE FARM:

TRIPLE-A IOWA (41–52) — Nashville 3, Iowa 2:

  • Dan Straily: 5.2 innings, allowing three hits and two earned runs and struck out four.
  • Bryce Windham was 2-for-4, including a double and a stolen base.
  • Trayce Thompson was 1-for-3 with a walk.
  • Cole Roederer was 1-for-2, including an RBI single in the 1st inning.
  • Michael Arias struck out two in a scoreless IP.

DOUBLE-A TENNESSEE (51–35) — Tennessee 9, Montgomery 0:

  • Felix Stevens was 1-for-3 with a pair of walks and runs scored.
  • Caleb Knight was 0-for-4 but scored a pair of runs after reaching on a walk and a fielder’s choice.
  • Jeff Belge struck out one in a scoreless IP.
  • Blake Whitney fanned two in a scoreless IP.
  • Eduarniel Nunez struck out two in a scoreless frame.

HIGH-A SOUTH BEND (33–54) — South Bend 7, Dayton 0:

  • Brett Bateman was 1-for-1 with a pair of walks and runs scored.
  • Jefferson Rojas was 2-for-4.
  • Parker Chavers was 1-for-4 with two-run home run in the 7th inning.
  • Brian Kalmer was 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored, including a solo home run in the 6th inning.

  • Carter Trice was 3-for-3 with a home run, 3 RBI, and plated the go-ahead run in the 8th inning.
  • Andy Garriola was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, one doble, and one walk.
  • Alfonsin Rosario was 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored.
  • Christian Olivo was 1-for-3 with a stolen base and a run scored.
  • Jeral Vizcaino struck out four in 2.0 IP.
