Dear Sam Harris

Dear Sam. I just gifted both my mother and father a copy of Mortality, by Christopher Hitchens.

I probably did so because I had just read your short blog post about missing Hitch. Reading about Hitch impelled me to re-read some his work. Then I chose to pass them this short book, one which concentrated my mind.

For what’s it’s worth, I disagree with the notion you aren’t stepping up to fill Hitch’s shoes. You have grown a tremendous following through your podcasts alone, often amassing over 300,000 listens per episode. More important, these discussions are changing minds.

You can only be yourself and you have different strengths from Hitch. For one, you are showing your strength in long form podcasts. I’m excited for you to continue your work in carrying on intellectual discussion and debate with other top thinkers.

I look forward to continuing the work toward progress.
