Dear Non-Sufferers, Please Don’t Judge Us.
Sincerely, Chronic Pain Sufferers.
While dealing with chronic pain, there are a lot of things we can’t do. Simple everyday tasks have turned into a battle we have not yet defeated. Because of this, we feel useless and tremendous guilt for suffering from chronic pain.
Even though we shouldn’t feel guilt from having pain, the actual guilt comes from becoming co-dependent on our primary caregivers. The added responsibility they had to take on for taking care of us is what racks us up with guilt.
After surviving septic shock, I moved back in with my parents to help get my health back on track. I’ve had severe health issues since I was born and they’re continuing to get worse every year since going into septic shock in 2016. Even though I have both of my parents helping me, my main primary caregiver is my mom. She takes me to doctor appointments, helps me with my online classes for school, and manages my medication.
Those are simple things we should be able to do on our own but can’t. Every day we are judged by the things we cannot do, and you know what? That is unfair to us; we didn’t choose this life. There are some things that we are judged very heavily on because the non-sufferer doesn’t understand how hard it is for us.
